2024-03-05

On 5th March 2024, the Central Department of Library and Information Science, TU organized a guest lecture on “Parliament Library of Nepal” as Activities Series no. 30. The guest lecturer was Under-secretary of Parliament Library Kamala Devi Sharma. She has long experience of working in the parliament library.

The program started with the celebration of the 114th International Women’s Day. The slogan “Invest in women: Accelerate progress” was cited by Assistant Professor Nira Manandhar. She emphasized that one should keep in mind the concept of the slogan to maintain gender balance and to bring real change in society. This followed a short presentation by Chandra Kala Rai, a student of the first semester. She presented photographs of parliament libraries of SAARC countries that helped to visualize the scenario of parliament libraries of neighboring countries.

The lecture started with a brief introduction to the parliament library. Mrs. Sharma very precisely presented the services being delivered by the library along with its history, objectives, and collection details. She highlighted the function of a parliament library in the global context to give a concept about the things that have to be done to achieve the benchmark. Both students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the program. Assistant Professor Dr. Lila Nyaichyai, the department head, graciously shared her insights as a member of the parliament library while concluding the session with her closing remarks.
